Hannah offer’s support, strategies and relevant information for parents and carers of teenagers or children she is providing therapy for.
Parenting can be a tough gig. Often the parents who seek consults, are simply needing some extra support, strategies to manage behaviours and a space to reflect.
Many parents have reported to benefit from increasing their understanding of what is underneath their children’s behaviours and feeling more equipped in how to respond to these behaviours.
In many cases where a child may be referred to my service for therapy, it may be in fact be more beneficial for parents to participate in parent consults first. Often this can be the primary intervention needed rather than the child needing therapy. Often parent consults require significantly less sessions than a child in therapy, it saves the child needing to have a professional in their life and the interventions are far more powerful when implemented by their parents rather then by a therapist. If the child also would benefit from therapy this can be done instead of or in connection with. Hannah is currently seeing teenagers and adults.
Parent consults aim to build a parents capacity for empathy for their child, builds acceptance of their child's experience and aims to reduce the parent's experience of stressors. Parent consults focus on building parents perception of positive change, identifying and building on existing strengths. Parent consults provide strategies and practical support, increases the understanding of what is underneath the child’s behaviour. This service helps a parent to build an understanding of what the parents triggers are and why they may have such a great impact. Parent consults also look to build the parents knowledge and self confidence as a parent and provides psycho-education and numerous strategies to increase the parent’s tool kit.
These sessions work towards therapeutic goals, work to build the parents emotional literacy, increase coping strategies and self support skills.
